Open Enrollment Workshops
- Common Piedmont Wetland Plants Register Now!
- Dates: May 27 & 28, 2010
- Location: Historic Yates Mill Co. Park, Raleigh, NC
- Description: This 2-day workshop is for individuals who are new to wetland plant identification. It focuses on
approximately 40 of the most common trees, shrubs, vines, and herbs, those that workers will
see in the majority of Piedmont wetlands. Individuals completing this workshop will be well on
their way to being able to determine hydrophytic vegetation, a required part of a jurisdictional
wetland delineation.
- Pocosin and Cypress Swamp Species Register Now!
- Dates: June 9 & 10, 2010
- Location: Bladen Lakes State Forest, Bladen Co., NC.
- Description:This two-day workshop will show you how to identify approximately 45 species of pocosin, bay
forest, pine flatwood, and cypress swamp plant communities. Being able to identify these
species is indispensable for wetland delineators using the Prevalence Index Method of
Hydrophytic Vegetation Determination required by the US Army Corps of Engineers. It also
facilitates mitigation planting, wildlife habitat evaluation, academic research, and enjoyment of
Coastal Plain plant communities.
- Wetland Piedmont Carex Identification Workshop Register Now!
- Dates: June 3 & 4, 2010
- Location: Historic Yates Mill Co. Park, Raleigh
- Description: There are more than 100 species of sedges in the genus Carex and many of them are dominant herbs in Piedmont wetlands. Although many consider Carex species identification difficult, one can reasonably expect to learn to identify at least 20 of the more common species during this two-day workshop.
